∞ STAGE 2A REDEVELOPMENT∞
∞ Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH) offers a suite of medical and specialty services for a population of more than 260,000 in the Gippsland region in southeast Victoria.
The hospital provides emergency care, elective surgery, maternity, aged care, rehabilitation, pharmacy and mental health services as well as radiation oncology. LRH treats approximately 130,000 patients every year, more than a quarter of these seen by the increasingly busy Emergency Department.
To meet the growing demand for services in the region, the hospital planned a massive upgrade to their infrastructure. The stage 2A expansion of the Hospital included construction of a new Emergency Department with more than double the existing capacity of the previous facility. The redevelopment also included a new main entrance or 'atrium' and admissions area, a state-of-the-art 30 bed ward, a 12 bed short stay unit, two day rooms for endoscopy procedures, a new carpark and Gippsland’s first Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory.

∞ Nuvo were engaged by Cockram Construction and Waterman AHW to provide the electrical and data works required for the $73 million redevelopment. Construction on the facility commenced in 2015 and opened to the public on 4th December 2017. A functioning hospital 24/7, the new ED, located 150 metres from the previous hospital began taking patients from 7am when the old ED closed. Such is the nature of fully operational hospitals, Nuvo worked closely with Cockram Construction and the end client to carefully plan and implement successful strategies to ensure minimal impact to hospital activities throughout the two year-long construction phase.
Due to extensive experience in the redevelopment of large scale hospitals, Nuvo were enlisted by the client to install a ‘Make Before Break’ generator facility. This cutting-edge technology is one of the first of its kind in the health industry and prevents even the slightest loss of power to critical facilities during the weekly testing of generators.
The significant new development will ensure the best available health care for Latrobe Valley and Gippsland communities into the future. Local residents seeking access to both basic and specialised treatments will receive world class care in their local community∞
