∞ EASTERN CAMPUS REDEVELOPMENT∞
∞ La Trobe University is an Australian, multi-campus, public research University with its flagship campus located in Bundoora. The Bundoora Campus has around 22,000 students and is the largest University campus in the Southern Hemisphere. As part of La Trobe Bundoora’s Eastern Campus Redevelopment Masterplan, the Donald Whitehead Building and Martin Building have undergone a full refurbishment and facelift to create a seamless transition into one state-of-the-art world class teaching and learning facility. Accommodating the La Trobe Business School, the design comprehensively arranges tertiary educational, research and workplace domains, integrated within a new external facade.
Nuvo Group were engaged by Built Pty Ltd to provide the electrical, data and security works required for the two stage $50 million dollar project. With over 5 years-experience providing exclusive specialist program and preventative electrical maintenance to the Bundoora Campus, Nuvo were excited to take part in the construction of this high-quality student amenity.

∞ The first stage involved the refurbishment of the 5 story Donald Whitehead Building. During this stage, a massive switchboard changeover which fed 15 other campus buildings was required. Nuvo worked collaboratively with all stakeholders to carefully ensure that no one was effected by the two day shut-down. Appropriate generator backups were provided to safeguard the many buildings effected by the changeover from power outages, allowing the University to operate as normal over this period.
Cutting edge technology including a Stand-Alone Organic Response Lighting System was employed, integrating the building’s AV and Building Maintenance System (BMS) and operating through blue-tooth and ethernet communication backpacks. This state-of-the-art electrical system is the first of its kind installed at the University one of the first in a full scale University building in Australia.
Stage two of the project involved refurbishment of levels 3 and 4 of the adjacent Martin Building. Lighting, power, data & security were all required and another weekend shutdown with switchboard and 12 new DBs was tightly managed. Fifteen Nuvo electricians worked around the clock to ensure power was back up and running by the time students arrived on the Monday morning.
On 30 August 2017, the Donald Whitehead Building was officially opened. The project provides new work spaces for academic and administration staff, spaces for post graduate students and learning spaces for expanded and flexible learning, and which support socialisation, interaction and opportunities for curriculum innovation, helping to cement La Trobe Bundoora as a beacon for research, learning and cultural activities in Melbourne.
